How many times have you heard or even quoted this Bible verse?
“Who the Son sets free is free indeed!” John 8:36
I, for one, have heard
it and quoted it quite often. Many of us use it when thinking about sin or issues we may have been delivered from that are
manifested through our visible or audible actions…like using profanity, or alcoholism, gluttony, fornication, drug
abuse; or even the bondage of debt and the like.
But I want to Praise Elohim that although the
Messiah’s coming and sacrifice has set me free from the bondage of sin, from living ungodly through
outward actions, it has synonymously set me free to something as well …and that is to love!
I am free to love when I am free from sin! Being set free in the LORD means I’m free to forgive. I’m
free to let go of past hurts, or even not so far in the past hurts. I’m free to truly, without reservation, love!
In the bible verse above, our LORD Yeshua was speaking with the Judeans who had put their trust in Him. He’d
told them if they would obey what he says, they would be His disciples, and they would know the truth and the truth would
set them free (John 8:32). He also told them that everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin (John 8:34).
When we do not forgive, when we do not
love our neighbor as ourselves, or do not do to others as we would have them do to us, we, the children of God, are walking
in sin because we have been commanded to do or to carry out these attributes of God. But when we are obedient, or
even when we deeply desire to be obedient in keeping these commands, the LORD will see us through.
He knows
what each of His children have endured. He knows that for some of His children, the offenses imposed on you are repulsive
and incomprehensible. But if we are still here, still breathing, still alive, He is able and He desires to set us free from
the hurt, bitterness, anger, resentment, and un-forgiveness that have been plaguing us and keeping us from living life to
the fullest in Him.
I am a living witness that when we walk with clean, bitter and resentment free hearts, then we are truly
“living.” We think clearly! We have nothing keeping us from hearing the voice of the LORD clearly! We begin to
have forward movement and momentum in the right direction for our lives! The LORD’s way is beautiful! It is
the way to true liberty!
When the Son sets us free, we are free indeed
because we are free to Love!
"You
must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind. And you
must love your neighbor as yourself." Luke 10:27
